Financial Literacy - The ability of individuals to make appropriate decisions in managing their personal finances. The Kentucky Jump$tart Coalition believes that all Kentuckians need to have the financial literacy necessary to make informed financial decisions and seeks to improve money management skills throughout the lifecycle of Kentuckians. The purpose of the coalition mirrors that of the national coalition as applied to Kentuckians of all ages. America Saves Week was Feb. 22-March 1, 2009 The Kentucky Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy® supported America Saves Week, Feb. 22 through March 1, 2009. Jump$tart asked teachers to spend 30 minutes of class time during the week to share with students the importance of saving money. In our Clearinghouse we provided an outline of what teachers might discuss with their students, which includes an optional letter to send home to parents. Parents could also use the outline information at home. The America Saves campaign encourages people to make a personal commitment to save money at any time of the year by signing up online at www.americasaves.org.
